2009 WINTER USTA SEASON

There were twelve teams that played USTA tennis January through March. There were 76 Senior players and 66 Super Senior players for a total of 142 GVR and Tennis Club members that played USTA from Green Valley.

A new team of 3.0 ladies in the Senior division was captained by Jennifer Lyons. They had 9 players, played in a bracket with 6 teams and did well for their first year of playing. Another new team was the 3.5 Senior Men’s team. Their captain was Hugh Bennett and they had 11 players on the team. In the Super Senior bracket there was a new Men’s 4.0 team captained by Jim Swifka. They had 7 players on their team.

The season has ended but a new season will be starting for Adult and Super Super Senior very soon. Watch for more information on home matches.

OCTOBER USTA PLAY – 2008

There will be a USTA Senior Mixed Doubles league this fall, along with the regular USTA men’s and women’s Super Senior Early Start Leagues. Both leagues will be combined ratings. Which means 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, etc. You can have only 1 level between players. So for example, a 6.0 team could have two 3.0 players or a 2.5 and a 3.5 player; a 7.0 team could have two 3.5 players or a 3.0 and a 4.0. Last year the levels were different for Super Senior. The Roadrunners, Carolyn Herron’s women’s 3.0 senior USTA, team just finished first at Sectionals. They won 4 matches out of 4 so will be heading to Indian Wells October 26th through the 28th.

Way to go team!

USTA team action was limited this week due to the
Coyote/Rattler Tournament. The home match schedule, as I am
aware of it now, for the rest of the winter season, is the
following:

Cathy Waddle Women 4.0 : Feb 10, Feb 24 and March 3
Duanne Rogers Women 3.5 : Jan 29 and Feb 12
Gail Reynolds Women 3.0 : Jan 29, Feb 26 and March 5
Paul Taylor Men 3.5 : Feb 20, Feb 27 and March 6
Norm Garneau Men 3.5 : Feb 6, Feb 13, Feb 20 ( play Paul Taylor’s team) and March 3
Carolyn Herron Women 3.0 : Jan 29 ( Desert Hills ), Feb 16
Jan Phillips Women 3.5 : Feb 2, Feb 23
Jon Otto Men 3.0 : Feb 2, Feb 3, Feb 7 (Desert Hills), Feb16, and March 2
Jerry Letendre Men 3.0 : Jan 31 ( Desert Hills), Feb 2 (plays Jon Otto’s team), Feb 16 and March 2

All matches are at West Tennis Center unless noted. All men’s matches are 2-4 PM; all women matches are at 12-2 PM,except Cathy Waddle’s matches which are at 2-4 PM.

There may be some changes due to weather and previous rainouts, etc., so spectators
should confirm with the captain if they really want to see a match. All of these matches will be at West Tennis Center.

2007 USTA SENIOR AND SUPER SENIOR LEAGUES

Sign-up for both leagues starts 11/13/06 (send an email to: Leslie Keys – la.keys@comcast.net – include the name of the captain, the captain’s phone number, email address, and their usta number)

Team sign-up for both leagues ends 12/17/06 (Leslie Keys will provide the captain with a team number – players then register through the USTA TennisLink website )

Both Leagues start play the week of 1/1/07

New player delete date 1/1/07

New player sign up end date will be 3 weeks before individual leagues last match

TennisLink is expected to increase their fees as of 1/1/07 – it is best to sign-up prior to 12/31/06 to avoid the increase.
